Former flyweight title challenger Steve Erceg is set to return to action when he faces Ramazonbek Temirov at UFC Fight Night 282 in Abu Dhabi.
The highly anticipated UFC Abu Dhabi Fight will take place on July 25 at the Etihad Arena. The promotion recently confirmed the matchup, adding another exciting contest to the event’s growing fight card.
The bout is important for both athletes as they look to move closer to title contention in the competitive flyweight division.
Erceg enters the fight with a professional record of 14 wins and four losses. The Australian quickly made an impact after joining the UFC. He won his first three fights inside the promotion and impressed fans and analysts with his performances.
His strong start earned him an unexpected title opportunity against reigning flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja in 2024. Although Erceg delivered a determined effort, he was unable to capture the championship.
The loss marked the start of a difficult period in his career. Erceg went through a three-fight losing streak that raised questions about his future in the division. Despite those setbacks, he remained focused on improving his game and rebuilding momentum.
The fighter known as “Astro Boy” has since responded with back-to-back victories. Wins over Ode Osbourne and Tim Elliott helped restore confidence and place him back on the radar of flyweight contenders.
A victory in Abu Dhabi could move Erceg even closer to another opportunity against the division’s elite fighters. At 29 years old, he remains one of the most promising competitors in the weight class.
Standing across from him will be Ramazonbek Temirov, one of the division’s rising stars.
Temirov brings an impressive record of 19 wins and three losses into the contest. The Uzbek fighter has not suffered a defeat since 2021 and currently holds an unbeaten streak of 11 consecutive fights.
His UFC career has started in impressive fashion. Temirov announced himself with a first-round knockout victory over C.J. Vergara during his promotional debut in 2024. The performance showcased his power and finishing ability.
He followed that success with a decision victory over experienced flyweight contender Charles Johnson. Those wins helped establish him as a serious threat in the division.
Temirov’s rise, however, faced a temporary setback last year when he received a suspension after testing positive for Trimetazidine, commonly known as TMZ. The substance is listed as prohibited under anti-doping regulations.
According to reports, Temirov provided evidence that the medication had been prescribed for a medical condition. After reviewing the case, authorities allowed him to return following the completion of his suspension period.
The fighter will become eligible to compete again on July 5, clearing the way for his return at UFC Fight Night 282 later in the month.
The matchup presents an interesting clash of styles and career paths. Erceg is seeking to continue his comeback after a difficult stretch, while Temirov hopes to extend his unbeaten run and strengthen his position among the division’s rising contenders.
Both fighters understand the importance of the contest. A strong performance could significantly improve their standing in the flyweight rankings and potentially open the door to bigger opportunities in the future.
The UFC has regularly brought major events to Abu Dhabi, and the city continues to play an important role in the promotion’s international schedule. The Etihad Arena has hosted many memorable fights and remains one of the organization’s premier venues.
Fans can expect a competitive battle between two talented athletes when the UFC Abu Dhabi Fight takes place on July 25. With momentum, rankings, and future title ambitions on the line, the flyweight showdown could become one of the most important fights on the card.
