The UAE Nepal Flood Aid mission has delivered critical humanitarian assistance to communities affected by one of the deadliest natural disasters to strike the Himalayan region in recent years.
The United Arab Emirates sent an aid aircraft carrying 83 tonnes of food, shelter materials, and emergency supplies to Nepal as rescue and recovery efforts continue following catastrophic floods that have killed hundreds of people and left thousands missing.
The humanitarian shipment arrived as authorities in Nepal struggle to respond to the widespread destruction caused by flash floods that swept through parts of the country last week.
The disaster began after a glacier collapse and landslide triggered powerful flooding near the border between Nepal and the Chinese region of Tibet. Entire communities were affected as floodwaters damaged homes, roads, bridges, and communication networks.
The UAE said the emergency supplies are part of a larger humanitarian assistance package valued at $10 million.
The aid initiative was directed by President Sheikh Mohamed and is intended to provide urgent support to families affected by the disaster.
Officials said the supplies include essential food items and shelter materials needed by displaced residents who have lost homes and access to basic services.
The UAE Aid Agency is overseeing the operation in coordination with the UAE embassy in Nepal and local authorities.
Relief teams are working to ensure that assistance reaches the areas most severely affected by the flooding as quickly as possible.
The agency is also coordinating with international humanitarian organizations involved in rescue and recovery operations across the disaster zone.
UAE officials said supporting communities during emergencies remains a key part of the country’s humanitarian efforts around the world.

Officials also reported that 2,502 people remain missing, raising concerns that the number of fatalities could increase as rescue teams gain access to more affected areas.
More than 8,000 people have been rescued since the disaster struck.
The scale of the emergency has required a massive response from security forces and emergency services.
Authorities said approximately 20,000 rescue workers have been deployed across flood-hit regions to search for survivors, provide medical assistance, and support recovery efforts.
Despite the large operation, rescue teams continue to face difficult conditions.
Heavy rainfall has repeatedly disrupted search efforts and raised fears of additional flooding. Emergency officials are also monitoring nearby lakes amid concerns that rising water levels could create new risks for communities already affected by the disaster.
The tourism sector has also been impacted.
Officials reported that hundreds of foreign visitors were caught in areas affected by the flooding. According to tourism authorities, 261 foreign nationals have been rescued, while hundreds of tourists remain unaccounted for.
The disaster extended beyond Nepal’s borders.
Authorities in Tibet reported fatalities linked to mudslides triggered by the same weather event. Emergency crews there continue to assess damage and support affected communities.
Nepal temporarily suspended some search and rescue operations because of dangerous weather conditions and has appealed for specialized international assistance.
Government officials said additional technical support is needed to help rescue people trapped in tunnels and isolated locations.
The destruction of bridges and transportation routes has complicated efforts to reach some of the hardest-hit areas.
Experts believe the disaster may have originated near Langtang Lirung, a mountain peak in the Himalayas located close to the affected border region.
