De Niro’s Stark Warning
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has once again taken aim at Donald Trump, warning that the president “will never leave” office unless Americans take action. Speaking on MS NOW ahead of the State of the Union, De Niro urged voters to remain vigilant, claiming Trump’s recent remarks about election control should not be dismissed as jokes.
He also appeared at a counter-event called “State of the Swamp” at the National Press Club, where he told attendees he felt “betrayed” by the direction of the country. De Niro described the current political climate as being dominated by “dishonest and greedy and cruel authoritarians,” and said the US must return to the values that once defined it.
Trump Fires Back Online
In response, Trump unleashed a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, lashing out at De Niro as well as Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, who interrupted his speech in the House chamber. Despite all three being American citizens, Trump suggested they should be deported.
The president described De Niro as “sick and demented” and claimed some of his remarks were “seriously criminal.” He also revived his long-running feud with Rosie O’Donnell, referencing her move to Ireland and again questioning whether critics should remain in the United States.
Public Opinion and Political Tensions
Trump’s comments come amid ongoing debate about age and leadership in Washington. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 61 percent of Americans believe Trump has become erratic with age, while a separate Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos survey showed his approval rating at 39 percent. Another finding suggested broad concern about the age of elected officials, with most respondents saying leaders in Washington are too old to represent the public effectively.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the polling as “fake and desperate narratives,” but the heated exchange between Trump and De Niro underscores the deep political divisions shaping the current national conversation.
