Luxembourg to Host Early Testing Programs
Chinese autonomous driving company Pony.ai has entered into a memorandum of understanding with multinational automaker Stellantis to collaborate on developing electric vans featuring Level 4 autonomous driving technology. The first phase of the project will begin with pilot operations in Luxembourg, with a gradual expansion across Europe anticipated from 2026. The partnership aims to leverage Stellantis’ experience in producing electric commercial vehicles alongside Pony.ai’s expertise in autonomous software and AI systems.
Smart Electric Vans for Passengers and Deliveries
Under the agreement, Pony.ai’s self-driving platform—combining advanced sensors, navigation systems, and control algorithms—will be incorporated into Stellantis’ electric light commercial vehicle range, which includes models from Peugeot, Citroën, and Opel. The collaboration seeks to deliver vehicles suitable for both passenger mobility and last-mile logistics in dense city environments. Initial tests will be conducted with human safety drivers as the technology undergoes European regulatory review and safety certification.
Collaboration Marks Pony.ai’s Entry into Europe
The initiative represents Pony.ai’s first major move into Europe, expanding its global footprint beyond existing operations in China and the United States. Stellantis views the alliance as a key step toward integrating autonomous systems into its growing fleet of electric vehicles. Both companies highlighted that the project will prioritize compliance with European safety standards, cybersecurity regulations, and data protection laws before any commercial rollout begins.
