The United Arab Emirates booked their place in the Gulf Cup semifinals on Sunday with a convincing 3-0 victory over defending champions Bahrain in Group B.
The win secured the UAE’s second straight victory of the tournament and guaranteed a place in the last four with one group-stage match still to play. Bahrain, meanwhile, were eliminated from the competition after suffering their second defeat.
The match took place at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, where the UAE delivered a strong performance on both ends of the field. The team controlled key moments of the game and converted its chances to secure a comfortable result.
The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Ousmane Camara found the back of the net to give the UAE a deserved lead. The goal rewarded a positive first-half display and allowed the Emirati side to take control of the contest.
Bahrain attempted to respond after the break, knowing that a loss would seriously damage their hopes of advancing. However, the UAE defense remained organized and prevented the defending champions from creating enough clear scoring opportunities.
As Bahrain pushed forward in search of an equalizer, the UAE took advantage of the extra space. Guilherme Bala doubled the lead in the 66th minute, giving his team a strong advantage heading into the final stages of the match.
The second goal shifted momentum further in favor of the UAE and left Bahrain facing a difficult task. Despite their efforts, the defending champions were unable to reduce the deficit or regain control of the game.
The UAE continued to press and were rewarded again late in the match. Ali Saleh added a third goal in the 88th minute to complete an impressive team performance and seal a comprehensive victory.
With the result, the UAE moved to six points from two matches in Group B. The team secured qualification for the semifinals before the final round of group fixtures.
The victory also placed the UAE at the top of the group on goal difference. Qatar also have six points after winning their opening two matches, setting up a decisive meeting between the two sides in the final group game.
Bahrain’s defeat ended their hopes of defending the Gulf Cup title. After entering the tournament as reigning champions, they were unable to collect points from their first two matches and were eliminated before the knockout stage.
Yemen have also been eliminated from Group B, leaving the UAE and Qatar as the two teams that will advance to the semifinals.
The final group-stage match between the UAE and Qatar will take place on September 30. With both teams already qualified, the game will determine which nation finishes first in Group B.
Finishing at the top of the group could provide a more favorable semifinal path, making the upcoming encounter an important test despite qualification already being secured.
The UAE will enter the match with confidence after scoring three goals against Bahrain and recording consecutive wins. Their attack has looked effective throughout the tournament, while the defense has remained disciplined under pressure.
For Bahrain, the result marks a disappointing end to their Gulf Cup campaign. The defending champions will now shift their focus to future competitions after an early exit from the regional tournament.
