The United Arab Emirates has launched a new humanitarian mission to Nepal after devastating floods and landslides claimed more than 1,000 lives and left thousands of people missing across the country.
The relief mission departed this week with a team of specialists trained in search and rescue operations, emergency medical care, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance. The effort aims to support Nepal as it continues recovery operations in some of the hardest-hit areas.
The team includes members from the UAE Joint Operations Command, Dubai Police search and rescue units, and the UAE Aid Agency. Experts in medical evacuation and first aid are also part of the deployment, reflecting the urgent need for both rescue operations and healthcare support.
Officials said the mission will work closely with Nepalese authorities to locate missing people, assist injured survivors, and help communities affected by widespread destruction. Search and rescue efforts remain a priority as thousands of people are still unaccounted for following the disaster.
The floods and landslides caused severe damage to homes, roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure. Rescue workers continue to face difficult conditions in remote regions where access remains limited due to damaged transport routes and unstable terrain.
The latest deployment follows several emergency aid deliveries already sent by the UAE. Earlier this week, relief aircraft transported large quantities of humanitarian supplies to Nepal. The shipments included food assistance, shelter materials, power generators, and other essential goods needed by displaced families.
The first airlift carried 83 tonnes of food supplies and emergency shelter equipment. A second aircraft delivered an additional 45 tonnes of relief materials to support communities struggling with the aftermath of the disaster.
Humanitarian organizations say many survivors urgently need food, clean water, temporary housing, and medical care. Aid agencies are working to reach isolated communities where access remains challenging because of damaged infrastructure and difficult weather conditions.
In addition to material support, the UAE recently announced a humanitarian assistance package worth $10 million. The funding is intended to strengthen ongoing relief operations and help address immediate needs in affected areas.
The assistance is being coordinated through the UAE Aid Agency under directives from President Sheikh Mohamed. Officials said the support package reflects the country’s commitment to helping communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
The UAE Aid Agency is also working with the UAE embassy in Kathmandu, local authorities, and international humanitarian organizations to ensure aid reaches people who need it most. Coordination efforts are focused on improving the speed and effectiveness of relief distribution.
Emergency response teams are expected to provide technical expertise and operational support during the critical phase of rescue and recovery efforts. Their work may include locating missing persons, assisting evacuation operations, and supporting local emergency services.
The mission highlights the UAE’s long-standing relationship with Nepal and its continued involvement in humanitarian assistance projects around the world. Over the years, the UAE has provided support during natural disasters, health emergencies, and other humanitarian crises affecting vulnerable communities.
Officials said rapid humanitarian action remains an important part of the country’s international engagement. By deploying rescue specialists and delivering emergency supplies, the UAE hopes to help reduce suffering and support recovery efforts in the affected regions.
As rescue operations continue, authorities in Nepal remain focused on locating missing individuals and helping survivors rebuild their lives. International assistance is expected to play a crucial role in supporting these efforts in the weeks ahead.
The UAE’s latest mission demonstrates a continued commitment to humanitarian cooperation and disaster response. With thousands of people still missing and many communities facing urgent needs, aid workers and rescue teams are racing against time to provide assistance and support recovery across the country.
