Abu Dhabi-based defence company EDGE Group has launched a new European unit called EDGE Europe. The new company is based in France and has its headquarters in Paris. The move marks a major step in EDGE’s plan to expand its defence and technology operations across Europe.
EDGE Europe is designed to strengthen the group’s presence in the European defence market. It will focus on advanced technology, fast development, and partnerships with local industry. The company aims to work closely with European governments, research centres, and private firms.
The new structure includes two main locations. The headquarters is located in the Chaillot district of central Paris. This office will handle government relations, investment planning, and regional partnerships. It will also guide the company’s expansion strategy across Europe.
EDGE Europe also operates an engineering and manufacturing hub in Bordeaux. The city is known for its strong aerospace and defence sector. It has a large supply chain and close links to universities and research institutions. This gives EDGE access to skilled engineers and advanced technology resources.
The company said it will collaborate with defence firms, technology startups, universities, and research centres across Europe. The goal is to develop integrated defence systems that work across multiple domains, including land, sea, air, and cyber operations.
These systems will include autonomous platforms, propulsion technologies, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare tools, advanced sensors, and communication systems. EDGE said these products will be developed and built in Europe with support from local talent.
The group also said it plans to hire and train European workers as part of its long-term strategy. It wants to build technology for European customers while also supporting job creation in the region.
EDGE Group chairman Faisal Al Bannai said Europe is at a key moment in its defence development. He said EDGE wants to support this phase by investing in local talent and building strong industrial partnerships within the continent.
The company’s expansion is supported by several recent investments across Europe. EDGE has acquired stakes in Milrem Robotics in Estonia, Anavia in Switzerland, and Flaris in Poland. It also plans to acquire CMD in Italy, which will further expand its industrial base in the region.
In addition, EDGE has formed joint ventures with major European defence companies. These include Fincantieri and Indra Sistemas. It also has strategic partnerships with Leonardo and Safran, two leading names in the aerospace and defence sector.
These partnerships are part of EDGE’s plan to become more integrated into Europe’s defence industry. The company aims to move beyond being a supplier and become a long-term industrial partner in the region.
The launch of EDGE Europe comes at a time when many European countries are increasing defence spending and modernising their military systems. Governments are also focusing on strengthening local production and improving supply chain security.
EDGE’s entry into Europe reflects a wider trend of global defence companies expanding into new markets. It also shows Abu Dhabi’s growing role in international technology and industrial development.
The company’s success in Europe will depend on how well it adapts to the region’s strict regulations and competitive defence market. It will also need to build strong trust with governments and industry partners.
For now, EDGE Europe represents a major expansion of Abu Dhabi’s defence industry into one of the world’s most advanced military and technology regions.
