Abu Dhabi is preparing to launch one of the world’s largest artificial intelligence projects, with the first phase of a major AI campus expected to go live before the end of this year. The project marks a big step in the United Arab Emirates’ plan to become a global leader in advanced computing and digital technology.
The facility is part of the UAE-US AI Campus, a large joint project designed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in artificial intelligence. Once fully developed, the campus will reach a massive capacity of 5 gigawatts. This will make it the largest AI campus outside the United States.
Officials confirmed that the first phase, which will provide 500 megawatts of capacity, is on track to become operational by the end of the year. This early stage will support growing demand for high performance computing needed to train and run advanced AI systems.
The project is seen as a key part of the UAE-US AI Acceleration Partnership. This partnership was launched during a recent state visit by US President Donald Trump to the UAE earlier this year. It focuses on expanding cooperation in AI research, infrastructure, and innovation.
The importance of the project was highlighted during a high level visit to Washington, DC. UAE officials, including Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority, met with senior US leaders. These included US Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg, along with members of Congress.
During the meetings, both sides discussed ways to deepen collaboration in artificial intelligence and advanced technology. AI is now a central part of the strategic relationship between the UAE and the United States, with both countries investing heavily in future technologies.
The Abu Dhabi AI campus is expected to become a core part of this growing partnership. It will provide the computing power needed to support next generation AI models, large data systems, and advanced digital services. Experts say such infrastructure is essential as global demand for AI continues to rise quickly.
In recent years, artificial intelligence has become one of the fastest growing areas of cooperation between the UAE and the US. Major UAE based technology firms such as G42 and MGX have expanded investments across the AI sector. These investments include work in semiconductors, AI research labs, computing systems, and real world applications.
The scale of the Abu Dhabi AI campus shows how serious the UAE is about becoming a global hub for technology. Countries around the world are racing to secure enough computing power to support advanced AI systems. The UAE aims to be at the center of this global shift.
Once complete, the campus is expected to attract international tech companies, researchers, and developers. It will also support innovation in fields such as machine learning, robotics, and digital infrastructure. This is expected to boost the wider economy and reduce dependence on traditional energy based industries.
The project also fits into the UAE’s long term plan for economic diversification. By building strong technology infrastructure, the country hopes to create new industries and high skilled jobs for the future.
With its massive size and global importance, the Abu Dhabi AI campus is set to become a key milestone in the world of artificial intelligence development.
