The United Arab Emirates has launched a new national cyber security training programme aimed at preparing students for careers in the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.
The initiative, known as the Cybrani Practical Training Initiative, was announced by the UAE Cyber Security Council in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research during Gisec Global 2026 in Dubai.
Officials said the programme is designed to help bridge the gap between academic learning and the practical skills required by employers. The initiative will give university students direct exposure to real-world cyber security challenges while connecting them with experienced industry professionals.
As the UAE continues to invest heavily in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and advanced technologies, demand for qualified cyber security professionals has increased significantly. The new programme is intended to help develop a stronger pipeline of local talent to meet those growing needs.
The initiative brings together government agencies, universities, and private sector companies in a collaborative effort to strengthen cyber security education and workforce development.
Several major organisations will participate in the first phase of the programme. Industry partners include Abu Dhabi Police, CPX, Core42, Fortinet, and Cyber50 Defence. Government participation will also include the Mawaheb Talent Hub under the Department of Government Enablement.
Officials said the partnership model will allow students to gain practical experience while learning from professionals currently working in the cyber security field.
Seven higher education institutions have joined the programme during its launch phase. Participating universities include Khalifa University, United Arab Emirates University, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Zayed University, and the Higher Colleges of Technology.
The programme will provide training across six key cyber security disciplines. These include governance, risk and compliance; cyber security operations; cyber threat intelligence; digital forensics and incident response; secure software development; and artificial intelligence applications in cyber security.
Officials believe these areas represent some of the most important skills needed in today’s cyber security workforce. By covering multiple specialisations, the programme aims to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities.
Participants will work on practical assignments and projects developed in partnership with industry organisations. Students will also receive guidance and mentorship from professionals who have experience dealing with real cyber security threats and operational challenges.
In addition to technical training, the initiative offers opportunities for networking and professional development. Students will be able to build relationships with employers, industry experts, and government representatives, helping them gain valuable insight into future career paths.
The programme also seeks to improve the transition from university studies to employment. By exposing students to workplace environments and industry expectations before graduation, officials hope to increase job readiness and strengthen the national talent pool.
Students who successfully complete the programme will receive an official certificate endorsed by both the UAE Cyber Security Council and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The Cyber Security Council will oversee coordination between participating organisations and help connect students with available training opportunities. Meanwhile, the ministry will work closely with universities to ensure the programme supports national education goals and workforce development strategies.
