Abu Dhabi authorities have issued a strong summer safety warning to drivers, urging them to remove several heat-sensitive items from their vehicles. The alert focuses on the rising risk of fires and explosions caused by extreme temperatures inside parked cars.
The advisory comes under the ongoing Safe Summer Campaign led by Abu Dhabi Police, along with the nationwide “Accident-Free Summer” initiative from the Ministry of Interior. Both programs aim to reduce seasonal road and vehicle-related accidents during the peak heat period.
Officials warned that inside parked cars, temperatures can rise rapidly under direct sunlight. This heat can turn everyday items into potential hazards. Authorities said this risk increases during the summer months, when outdoor temperatures in the region regularly reach extreme levels.
Police identified six main categories of items that should never be left inside vehicles exposed to heat. These include pressurised containers, batteries and energy storage devices, hand sanitisers, perfumes, gas cylinders, and cigarette lighters. Each of these items can become unstable when exposed to high temperatures for long periods.
Authorities explained that pressurised containers may expand and burst under heat. Batteries and power banks can overheat and catch fire. Alcohol-based hand sanitisers and perfumes are also highly flammable. Gas cylinders may leak or explode if pressure builds up, while cigarette lighters can ignite unexpectedly.
Officials stressed that these risks are not theoretical. Vehicles already contain flammable materials such as fuel, lubricants, and plastic-based interior parts. When combined with extreme heat, these conditions can increase the chance of fire incidents inside parked cars.
Abu Dhabi Police urged drivers to take simple preventive steps to reduce danger. Motorists are advised to check their vehicles before leaving them parked, especially in open or sun-exposed areas. They should remove any items that may react to heat or pressure changes.
The police also encouraged regular vehicle maintenance through authorised service centres. Proper maintenance helps ensure that electrical systems, cooling systems, and fuel components remain safe during hot weather conditions.
In addition, drivers were advised to keep basic safety tools inside their vehicles. These include a working fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit. Authorities said these items can make a critical difference in emergency situations.
Officials added that awareness is a key part of preventing summer-related vehicle incidents. Many fire risks can be avoided if drivers take a few seconds to inspect their cars before leaving them parked for long periods.
The campaign is part of wider efforts in the United Arab Emirates to improve road safety during extreme weather. Authorities regularly issue seasonal warnings to reduce accidents, protect property, and ensure public safety.
Police said that community cooperation is essential for the success of such initiatives. By following safety guidance, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of vehicle fires and protect themselves, passengers, and surrounding property.
The warning serves as a reminder that even small items left inside a car can become dangerous under intense heat, making careful preparation an important part of safe driving during the summer season.
