More people in Abu Dhabi are living active and healthy lives, according to new survey results released by government authorities. The latest findings show that participation in physical activity reached a record 60.3 percent in 2025, marking a significant increase from 53.6 percent recorded a year earlier.
The results come from the fourth Abu Dhabi Sports and Physical Activity Survey, conducted by the Department of Community Development and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. The study measures community participation in sports and exercise based on standards set by the World Health Organization.
The survey attracted around 31,000 responses in 2025, compared with 21,000 in 2024 and 19,000 in 2023. Officials said the larger number of participants provided a broader picture of how residents are engaging with sports, fitness, and physical activity across the emirate.
One of the strongest improvements was recorded among UAE nationals. Participation in physical activity among citizens rose to 54.3 percent in 2025 from 45.6 percent the previous year. The increase reflects growing interest in exercise and healthy living among local communities.
Children and teenagers also showed positive progress. The percentage of young people meeting the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity increased from 12.5 percent in 2024 to 14.8 percent in 2025. Health experts often stress the importance of regular exercise during childhood because it supports physical development, mental well-being, and long-term health.
People of Determination also recorded higher activity levels. The survey found that 46.5 percent met the World Health Organization’s weekly physical activity recommendations, compared with 43.7 percent in the previous survey. Officials said the increase reflects ongoing efforts to make sports and recreational activities more accessible to all members of society.
The survey showed that residents are not only becoming more active but are also more satisfied with the sports opportunities available to them. Satisfaction with sports events and activities increased to 83 percent in 2025, up from 78 percent a year earlier.
Satisfaction with sports facilities, infrastructure, and related services also improved. The figure rose from 76 percent in 2024 to 78 percent this year. Authorities said investments in sports facilities and community programs have helped support this growth.
Awareness of sports activities also continued to rise. Community awareness of local sports events increased from 21 percent to 25 percent. Awareness of major international sporting events hosted in Abu Dhabi also improved, reaching 24 percent compared with 22 percent in the previous year.
Officials linked the positive results to ongoing investments in public health and sports infrastructure. Over the past several years, Abu Dhabi has expanded walking tracks, cycling paths, public sports facilities, and fitness programs designed for different age groups.
Community leaders said these improvements have helped encourage more people to include exercise as part of their daily routine. Programs aimed at children, senior citizens, and People of Determination have also contributed to higher participation rates.
Government officials noted that promoting sports is part of a broader strategy to improve quality of life across the emirate. Encouraging healthy habits can help reduce health risks, strengthen social connections, and support overall well-being.
The survey results also highlight the growing role of data in shaping public policy. By tracking participation levels and community feedback, authorities can better understand which programs are working and where additional support may be needed.
Officials said the information collected through the survey helps guide future decisions on sports programs, facilities, and health initiatives. The goal is to ensure that residents of all ages and backgrounds have opportunities to stay active and healthy.
Abu Dhabi has hosted a growing number of local and international sporting events in recent years. These events have helped raise awareness of fitness while encouraging community participation in sports and recreation.
Health experts widely agree that regular physical activity plays a key role in preventing chronic diseases, improving mental health, and enhancing overall quality of life. As participation rates continue to rise, officials believe the emirate is moving closer to its goal of building a healthier and more active society.
The latest survey findings suggest that these efforts are producing measurable results. With record participation levels, growing public satisfaction, and increased awareness of sports activities, Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its reputation as a city that supports healthy and active living for all residents.
