Travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai has become easier and more affordable as several bus services continue to connect the two cities every day.
Residents and tourists are using the intercity bus system for work, shopping, tourism, and entertainment as demand for public transport grows across the UAE.
With concerts, shopping malls, beaches, and tourist attractions attracting visitors year-round, many travelers are choosing buses instead of taxis or private cars.
There are currently three main bus routes connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai. These include the E100, E101, and the newer Capital Express service.
The E100 route operates between Abu Dhabi Bus Station and Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai.
This route is popular with passengers heading toward tourist areas such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Creek, and Jumeirah.
The E101 route connects Abu Dhabi Bus Station with Ibn Battuta Bus Station.
Passengers traveling to Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina, JBR, and JLT often prefer this service because of its convenient location.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority also launched the Capital Express route in partnership with Capital Express.
The newer non-stop service operates between Al Quoz Bus Station and MBZ Bus Station seven days a week.
Officials say the service was introduced to provide faster travel between the two emirates.
The E100 and E101 buses usually run every 30 minutes throughout the day.
The E100 trip takes about two hours and 20 minutes, while the E101 route is slightly faster at around one hour and 40 minutes.
The Capital Express service operates every three hours and completes the journey in about one hour and 30 minutes.
A one-way bus ticket between Abu Dhabi and Dubai costs Dh25, making it one of the cheapest transport options in the country.
Passengers traveling on the intercity buses must use a Nol Card because the routes are operated by Dubai’s RTA.
Travelers can buy Nol Cards at Abu Dhabi Bus Station and Mussafah Shabiya Bus Station.
The Silver Nol Card costs Dh25 and includes Dh19 in travel credit. Passengers can also add more money through station machines or the Nol Pay mobile app.
The buses are designed to provide comfortable travel for daily commuters and tourists.
Most buses include reclining seats, air conditioning, free WiFi, and USB charging ports for passengers.
Many travelers use the journey time to rest, work online, or charge their mobile devices during the trip.
For travelers arriving by air, the Abu Dhabi Airport Express also connects the airport to Dubai.
The airport service runs between Zayed International Airport and Ibn Battuta Bus Station.
Tickets for the airport express cost Dh35. Buses leave every hour and the trip takes around one hour and 30 minutes.
Passengers can buy tickets directly from the counter inside the arrivals hall.
However, the airport express service only works for passengers traveling from the airport because travelers must show a boarding pass.
Visitors heading to Yas Island attractions can also use free shuttle services.
The Yas Island Express offers complimentary transport for guests visiting attractions on Yas Island.
Passengers must show attraction tickets before boarding the buses.
The shuttle network includes pickup points across Dubai, including Al Barsha, Dubai Marina, JBR, Downtown Dubai, Deira, Jebel Ali, and Al Seef.
The growing number of routes and transport options reflects the UAE’s wider effort to improve public transportation and support tourism between major cities.
Affordable fares, frequent schedules, and comfortable buses continue to make intercity travel a practical choice for thousands of passengers every week.
