The United Arab Emirates is accelerating its adoption of autonomous technology with plans to introduce driverless delivery vehicles nationwide within the next year. This move follows successful trials in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, where autonomous vehicles have been delivering products to customers.
Tariq Al Wahedi, CEO of 7X Group, a Dubai-based trade, transport, and logistics holding group, stated, “A few autonomous trucks are already active in Masdar City, doing deliveries. We need a certain number of hours to prove that it is safe. Then it will be extended to Khalifa City. We will then do another trial in Dubai as well. In one year, we will have those vehicles on the roads across the UAE.
The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency of courier, express, and parcel (CEP) services by reducing traffic congestion and operational costs. The autonomous delivery system is designed to function similarly to a train, stopping at designated stations to deliver goods, thereby streamlining the delivery process and minimizing road congestion.
This development is part of the UAE’s broader strategy to integrate autonomous technology into various sectors, including transportation and logistics, aligning with the nation’s vision of becoming a global hub for innovation and smart city infrastructure.
As the trials expand to other cities like Khalifa City and Dubai, the UAE is poised to lead in the implementation of driverless delivery solutions, setting a precedent for other nations to follow in the realm of autonomous logistics.
